Free online Block Drop game
Block Drop is a falling-block puzzle: shapes made of four squares drop into a well ten cells wide, and you slide and turn them so they fit together. Every row you fill completely disappears and the blocks above it fall down; let the stack reach the top and the game is over. This version runs directly in your browser - no download, no account - and it was designed for the phone first, with gestures on the well and a gamepad-style set of buttons under your thumbs.
Three speeds, and faster as you go
Pick how fast the pieces fall when the game begins. After every ten lines you move up a stage and everything speeds up by about fifteen percent, so even Easy turns into a real challenge in a long game.
| Level | Starting speed | 1 line | 2 | 3 | 4 lines |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Easy | 0.8 s per row | 1 | 3 | 5 | 8 |
| Medium | 0.48 s per row | 2 | 6 | 10 | 16 |
| Hard | 0.26 s per row | 3 | 9 | 15 | 24 |
Clearing four lines with one long bar scores the most, so it pays to leave a single column open and wait for the I piece.
Controls that work on a phone
- Tap the well to rotate the piece.
- Drag sideways to move it - one column for every cell your finger travels.
- Drag down slowly to soft drop, flick down to drop it straight to the bottom, flick up to put it on hold.
- Or use the buttons: move and soft drop under your left thumb, a large rotate button under your right, and hold, hard drop and rotate-back above them. Holding a move button slides the piece across the well.
On a computer, the arrow keys move and rotate, Space drops, C holds and P pauses.
Modern features
A ghost shows where the piece will land, the next box shows the three pieces after it, and hold puts one aside for later. Pieces come in shuffled sets of seven, so you never wait long for the one you need, and a piece resting on the stack waits half a second before it locks - time to slide it into a gap. Rotation follows the standard system with wall kicks, so a piece turned against a wall or the stack nudges itself into place instead of refusing to move.
Pause any time
Tap the pause button in the side panel or press P - or simply switch apps: the game pauses on its own when the page is hidden, and it is saved as it is. Close the tab and come back later; the well, your score and the next pieces are waiting where you left them.
