Puffer Reef - a free one-tap swimming game

Puffer Reef is a one-button arcade game about a small, round pufferfish on a very long swim. Every tap gives it a push upwards; between taps it sinks. The reef scrolls towards you, and the only way on is through the gaps between its columns of rock, coral and timber. It is built for the phone first and plays in your browser, with no download and no account.

Three hearts, and pearls to win them back

A bump does not end the dive straight away. The puffer has three hearts: touch the reef, a jellyfish or the sand and it puffs up, loses a heart and blinks for two seconds while it swims on. Pearls lie in the gaps and along the way - every fifteen fill the string in the corner and turn into a new heart. Now and then a bubble with a heart inside drifts in a gap: swim through it for a heart on the spot.

Four waters, deeper and deeper

You start in the Sunlit Shallows among coral rocks. After fifteen reefs the water turns green in the Kelp Forest, where some gaps start to drift up and down. At thirty-five you reach the Sunken Wreck with its timber pillars and the first jellyfish, and at sixty the Midnight Trench, dark and glowing, where the reef moves the most. The swim also gets a little faster and the gaps a little narrower the further you go.

Out of hearts? Keep going

When the last heart is gone you can start a new dive - or carry on from the same spot with your score and all three hearts back, up to twice per dive. Your best score, the number of dives and all the pearls you have ever collected are saved on your device.
