Free online Snake game

Snake is one of the simplest and most addictive games ever made: steer a hungry snake around a square field, eat the fruit that appears, and grow a little longer with every bite. The longer the snake, the less room there is to move - touch a wall or your own tail and the game is over. This version runs directly in your browser, with no download and no account, and it was designed for the phone first: swipe anywhere on the field or use the big on-screen arrows under your thumb.

Three speeds to choose from

The field is the same 17 × 17 grid on every level; what changes is how fast the snake moves, and how much every fruit is worth:

A basket of fruit

Twelve different fruits turn up on the field, never the same one twice in a row:

After every fifth fruit a golden star appears for six seconds. A ring around it shows how much time is left; reach it before it fades and it is worth as much as five fruits.

Controls that work on a phone

Swipe on the field in the direction you want to go - you can keep your finger down and draw several turns in one gesture. If you prefer buttons, the d-pad under the field reacts the moment you touch it, without waiting for your finger to lift, which matters at Hard speed. On a computer, use the arrow keys or W A S D. Quick turns are remembered, so a fast "up, then left" between two steps is never lost.

Pause any time

Tap the button in the middle of the d-pad, press Space, or simply switch apps: the game pauses on its own when the page is hidden, and it is saved as it is. Close the tab and come back tomorrow - the snake is waiting where you left it, together with your score, your best result on each level and your total points.
