Free online Mahjong Solitaire
Mahjong Solitaire - also called Mahjong Connect or simply Mahjong - is the tile-matching puzzle played with the 144 tiles of the Chinese game. The tiles are stacked into a shape; take them off two at a time by matching pairs of identical tiles, and clear the whole board to win. The catch: only a free tile can be taken - one with nothing on top of it and an open side on its left or its right.
Twelve layouts, dealt at random
Every game picks one of twelve layouts: Pyramid, Turtle, Fortress, Bridge, Diamond, Cross, Flower, Hourglass, Stairs, Twin Towers, Brick Wall and Heart - each built in three sizes, one for every level, and never the same layout twice in a row. The tiles are dealt afresh each time, and every deal can be solved: the board is built backwards from a finished game, so there is always at least one way to clear it.
Three levels of difficulty
| Level | Tiles | What makes it harder | Points |
|---|---|---|---|
| Easy | 64–72 | Every picture appears only twice, so a match is never a mistake; blocked tiles are greyed out | 1 |
| Medium | 94–112 | Some pictures appear four times: which pair you take starts to matter | 2 |
| Hard | 130–144 | Higher stacks and every picture four times, dealt so that the obvious pair is often the wrong one | 3 |
Made for the phone
Tap a free tile, then its twin. Every layout is at most eight tiles across, so the whole board fits a phone held upright with no pinching or scrolling. Stuck? Undo takes back as many moves as you like, and Shuffle re-deals the tiles left into a board that can still be cleared. On a computer, click the tiles, move between free ones with Tab and undo with Ctrl + Z. Light and dark themes follow your device, and the game in progress is saved as you play.
Hand-drawn tiles
All 42 tile faces were drawn for this game: dots, bamboo and characters from one to nine, the four winds, the red, green and white dragons, and the four flowers and four seasons. A tile matches only its exact twin.
