Cookie Policy

Last updated: 2 October 2026

Short version. The games themselves set no tracking cookies - they keep a few items in your browser's local storage so your puzzle, your points and your theme survive a reload. Google Analytics loads only if you press “Accept all” in our banner. Ads are served by Google AdSense; in the EEA, the UK and Switzerland Google asks for your consent to advertising cookies in its own message.

1. What we mean by “cookies”

“Cookies” here covers cookies and similar technologies: localStorage, sessionStorage, device identifiers and pixels. They can be set by us (first party) or by an advertising partner (third party). This policy covers lynxy.io and every game published on it.

2. Strictly necessary storage (always active)

These items make the games work and are exempt from consent. They are stored locally and are never transmitted to us. Two of them are shared by the whole site:

Each game stores its own progress under its own prefix. Sudoku uses:

3. Advertising cookies - Google AdSense

Ads on lynxy.io are served by Google AdSense. Google and the third-party vendors it works with use cookies (for example __gads, __gpi, IDE and NID) or similar identifiers in order to:

In the EEA, the UK and Switzerland, Google shows a consent message, a certified consent management platform under the IAB Transparency and Consent Framework, before any of this relies on your consent. You can accept, refuse or pick individual vendors and purposes, and reopen the message later from the Privacy and cookie settings link on the page. Elsewhere you can turn off personalised ads in Google Ads Settings or for many vendors at aboutads.info.

These cookies are set on Google's domains under Google's own retention periods; we have no access to them. Details: policies.google.com/technologies/ads. No game feature depends on ads: hints, shuffles, continues and boosters work the same whatever you choose.

4. Analytics cookies - Google Analytics 4

We use Google Analytics 4 (property G-PTDJ02SRNC), supplied by Google Ireland Limited, to see how many people play, which pages they reach and how long they actually stay.

4.1 Only after “Accept all”

Before you answer the banner, and for as long as you stay on “Essential only”, the Google library (gtag.js from googletagmanager.com) is not loaded at all: no analytics request goes to Google, no cookie is set and nothing is measured. Pressing “Accept all” loads it, and the following cookies are then set:

Your choice is remembered in lynxy.consent and re-applied on your next visit. If you chose “Essential only”, the banner is shown again once at least 24 hours have passed since you last saw it; until you choose otherwise, your refusal stays in force. Google Analytics' advertising features are not used: advertising storage stays denied in Google Consent Mode even after you accept.

4.2 What is measured

Besides the standard page view, the site sends a single kind of event: an engagement ping every 30 seconds while the tab is active (shown and in focus) and you have used the page in the last five minutes. It carries the kind of page you are on (for example “sudoku:game”) and how many seconds you have been active on it. Clicks, moves, games played, scores, puzzles, entries and notes are not reported - they stay on your device.

4.3 Opting out

Choose “Essential only” in Cookie settings at any time: Google Analytics is switched off immediately and its cookies are deleted. You can also install Google's browser opt-out add-on or block googletagmanager.com with an ad blocker. Google's own explanation of this data is at policies.google.com/technologies/partner-sites.

5. Managing your choice

6. Do Not Track and global signals

Browsers send these signals inconsistently, so we do not rely on them. Your choice in our cookie banner controls the analytics cookies, and Google's consent message controls the advertising cookies described above.

7. Changes

If we add a partner, add a game or change how storage is used, we will update this page and ask for your choice again.
