Harvest Hollow

How to play Harvest Hollow

A complete guide: planting and harvesting, all twelve crops, pests and the sprays that stop them, fertiliser, hens and bees, customer orders, the market, and how to keep the farm out of the bank's hands.

In one paragraph. You start with six plots of soil and 60 coins. Buy seeds, plant them and wait - crops grow in real time, even while the game is closed. Tap a ripe crop to put it in the barn, then sell it at the market or deliver it to a customer who pays extra. Every harvest earns experience; levels unlock new crops, more land and new buildings. Watch out for pests on the valuable crops, and never spend your last coins on anything that cannot earn them back.

The basics

  1. Plant. Tap an empty plot and pick a seed. You pay for the seed when you plant it. All plants the same seed on every empty plot at once, and the button under the field repeats your last seed.
  2. Wait. The little bar on a plot shows how far the crop has grown and the label shows the time left. You can close the game - the farm keeps growing.
  3. Harvest. A ripe crop glows gold. Tap it, or use Harvest all. The produce goes to the barn, which has limited room - build a bigger one in the shop.
  4. Sell or deliver. In the Barn tab you sell at today's market price. In the Orders tab customers ask for a basket of goods and pay 30-60% more than the market, plus bonus experience.

The crops

Seed price and selling price are in coins. Market prices move up and down by up to a quarter around the value shown here.

Grapes are a vine: you plant them once and harvest them six times. The number on the plot shows how many harvests are left.

Pests and sprays

While you are playing, aphids, potato beetles and slugs can land on a growing crop - the longer it grows, the more likely. An infested plot flashes red, the crop stops growing, and a red bar shows how much of it has been eaten. If the bar fills (two to three minutes), the crop is gone and the plot has to be cleared.

Radishes and carrots are never attacked. Pests do not come while the game is closed, and an attack that has already started pauses too.

Fertiliser

Tap a growing crop to use them. If you have none in stock, the button buys one and uses it straight away.

Hens

At level 4 you can build a chicken coop (300 coins). Hens cost 80 each; every hen with feed in the trough lays an egg every five minutes, and the hens take turns - with four hens there is an egg every 75 seconds, with twelve every 25. Now and then one is a golden egg worth 150 - and once you keep three hens or more, a rare customer may turn up in Orders who pays twice that for a single golden egg. A bag of feed (10 portions) costs 25. Hens keep laying while you are away, until the feed runs out or the nests are full (six eggs per hen). The coop can be enlarged from 4 to 8 and then 12 hens. If money is tight you can sell a hen back for 40.

Bees

At level 10 you can build up to three beehives (1,200 coins each). Each makes a jar of honey every 15 minutes - with no feed - and holds up to four jars.

Growing the farm

Going bankrupt

If you cannot afford even a radish seed, nothing is growing, the barn is empty and you have no hens or hives left to earn from, the farm is bankrupt: the bank takes it, and you start again with a new farm. Your best level is remembered.

Tips

1. Keep a radish fund

Five coins buy a radish seed that turns into eight coins in 45 seconds, and pests leave it alone. As long as you keep a little change, you can always earn your way back.

2. Plant long crops before you leave

Short crops earn the most while you are playing; pumpkins, watermelons and grapes are perfect for the night.

3. Fill orders

An order is the best price you will get for your goods. Keep a few of each crop in the barn for the next customer, and turn away orders you cannot fill.

4. Sell on the up arrow

Market prices change every five minutes. If the arrow points down and the barn has room, wait for a better price.

5. Never let the trough run dry

A hen without feed is a hen that lays nothing. Top up the trough before you close the game.
